At Texas State, we are excited to welcome nearly 13,000 new Bobcats each year at New Student Orientation (NSO)!

Orientation Leaders

WHAT TO EXPECT

All freshmen attend a two-day orientation session on campus designed to prepare incoming first-year students to be successful at Texas State. In order to satisfy your orientation requirement, it is important for you to sign up and attend a NSO session. To sign up for NSO, students must be admitted to the university and have an activated NetID and password.

At NSO you will meet other new Bobcats, learn about services and resources that are here to help you succeed, receive essential academic information, get your student ID card, sleep in a residence hall, learn about the course registration process, and deepen your connection to Texas State! Our Academic Advisors will also work in partnership with you to complete the course registration process in advance of or during your orientation experience.

Parents or guests are encouraged to attend the Orientation program with their student.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR COURSE REGISTRATION

New Bobcat Enrollment (NBE) is a streamlined way to enroll new freshmen in classes for their first semester. Full advising, which comes later, is where freshmen discuss long-term academic goals, career plans, and any major changes in detail. Freshmen students will submit a New Bobcat Enrollment Profile to initiate the course registration process.
  • The New Bobcat Enrollment Profile is available in the TXST Future Bobcat Portal.
  • Academic Advisors will:
    • Review the profile.
    • Enroll students in the best-fit courses for their first semester.
    • Lift the New Student Advising hold.
    • Email new students with this information and registration resources.

If students are not enrolled by their in-person NSO date, Academic Advisors will assist them with the process when they are on campus for NSO.
