Round Rock NSO

HOW TO FULFILL THE NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION REQUIREMENT

Freshmen and transfer students may fulfill their orientation requirement by attending a one-day, in-person NSO Session at the Round Rock Campus on either July 26 or August 19.

Alternatively, transfer students may complete an asynchronous online orientation module consisting of on-demand course modules and a required response form.
  • To satisfy their orientation requirement, it is important for transfer students to sign up for and complete the online NSO modules within the required timeline.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR ACADEMIC ADVISING AND COURSE REGISTRATION

Academic advising and NSO are two separate experiences that take place at different times. Students will not participate in a traditional advising experience during an on-campus NSO.

Freshmen students will submit a New Bobcat Advising Worksheet form at least 10 calendar days in advance of their NSO date.
  • The Advising Worksheet is available within the TXST Admissions Status Portal.
  • The Advising Worksheet provides information on a student’s academic history up to that point (Advance Placement (AP) credit, dual credit, International Baccalaureate (IB) credit, standardized test scores (ACT, SAT), etc.).
  • First-Year Advising staff members will provide course recommendations for students based on the information provided via the Advising Worksheet.
  • Students will ideally register for the recommended courses prior to the in-person NSO session. Help with the registration process is provided during the in-person NSO session though.

Transfer students, after signing up for NSO, are provided with instructions via the TXST Admissions Status Portal regarding how to receive academic advising and course recommendations.
  • Students should allow up to 2 business days after signing up for a NSO session for their TXST Admissions Status Portal to display advising-related instructions.
  • Transfer students participate in the advising and course registration process through their appropriate advising center.
  • Advising will occur separately from both the in-person and virtual NSO experience.
  • Ideally, students will initiate their advising steps as soon as they sign up for NSO and complete their steps prior to their in-person orientation.

Both freshmen and transfer students should complete both NSO and academic advising as soon as possible to ensure course registration, financial aid awards, and an overall smooth transition to Texas State.
