The onboarding process takes place before the start of the fall semester and focuses on introducing new cadets to the AFROTC lifestyle, academic expectations, uniform fittings, and finalizing all paperwork. Complete the Biology Passport Challenge by visiting stations throughout Supple and Ingram to collect stamps, connect with student organizations, chat with upperclassmen about life as a biology major, and learn about study abroad opportunities form students who have experiences them firsthand. Whether you’re considering a one of the biology department’s majors or simply curious about our programs, there’s something for everyone!

The College of Health Professions will hold an open house to welcome newly admitted health professions students to the college. Each of the academic departments will have a table or room in Encino Hall staffed by faculty and students to extend a welcome and answer any questions about the programs. At our Open House, several faculty will be present to speak/interact with attendees and answer questions about our Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program.  Information about our program, degree plan, and handouts on Social Work will be provided to raise awareness and increase interest in Social Work.  The primary meeting room will be ENC 215 where we will conduct our initial meet and greet activities.  We will also use ENC 118, ENC 119, and ENC 216 as breakout rooms for additional information, specific topics and additional Q&A. The school will provide snacks, water, and Social Work swag items for all attendees.  We have arranged for a few students to attend to speak directly with our new Bobcats.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will be hosting Open House on Tuesday, August 18 from 1:00pm-3:00pm in CHEM 105. Faculty will provide brochures and other promotional materials to provide students with a list of the different programs and opportunities our department has to offer. Students will have the opportunity to meet our faculty and students to learn more about educational and research opportunities we provide. Some student academic job opportunities for our department include Lab Instructional Assistants, Supplemental Instruction, and STEM Communities Learning Assistant Program. We offer a research program called NSF PREM CIMA, which provides training and funding in research. We are also proud of our student organizations: we currently have five student organizations that students can join, including American Chemical Society and American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). Planting Green Mindsets will introduce students to sustainability initiatives on campus, opportunities for involvement, and resources that help them take an active role in creating positive environmental change at TXST and in the San Marcos community. The presentation will cover where TXST’s water comes from, practical ways to conserve water and electricity, what it means to be a responsible steward of campus resources, and how to prevent burnout through self-stewardship. Attendees will receive a free house plant to be reminded to connect with nature and take care of themselves.

Here's your floor-by-floor travel plan:

1st Floor - Travel back to the 1960s from 10 to 6 p.m. and make your own videos, music, buttons and more in the various spaces in Alkek One. Visit the ALIAS Virtual Production Studio to experience a 1960s-style game show form 4-6! Livestream will also be on their YouTube channel.  

2nd Floor - The 1970s-themed floor is the perfect place to get started and we'll be there all day. Pick up a boarding pass, ask questions, get help with Send&Print and meet some groovy library staff. 

3rd Floor - Follow Pac-Man to the 1980s. Connect with a variety of services including peer research coaches and writing center consultants. Enjoy an ice cream social with the folks from the Center for Student Entrepreneurship. These activities will be ongoing from 1 to 3 p.m.

4th Floor - In the 1990s, you can grab a popsicle and learn about SLAC tutoring, success coaching and Veteran Academic Success Center services. Pass through the tunnel to socialize with experts from the IDEA Center and the Library who can tell you all about research services and opportunities, as well as data and GIS resources. You'll find these activities going on from 11 a.m to 2 p.m.

7th Floor - And experience multiple decades from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the galleries of The Wittliff Collections. Participate in a fun scavenger hunt and compete for prizes.
